MOUNT BUFFALO PLATEAU : December 6

On Sunday December 6th, it was a glorious sunny 25 degrees, accompanied by a gentle breeze, and the makings of a great day for bushwalking. Unfortunately, this was happening somewhere else on the planet, and not at Mount Buffalo. Instead, sixteen foolhardy walkers braved the elements to walk the Mount Buffalo Plateau, taking in Mt…

McMillans Track Guide Book

Angus McMillan (1810-1865) was born in Scotland, and migrated to Australia in 1838. He pioneered much of what we now call Gippsland, and his memoirs show that, like many migrants, he had a great love for his adopted country. In 1988 a 210km long distance walking track was created in honour of McMillan’s adventures. This…

Flagstaff Road, Gapsted : November 22

On Sunday, 22 November, Warby Walkers enjoyed the planned walk along Flagstaff Road.  There were a total of 13 walkers, so we walked in two groups, so as to follow the current COVID-19 restrictions.  As the day was predicted to be warm, with a storm brewing, we set off about 8.15am, to beat the heat….

Walks on the Stanley Plateau

A small number of walkers from the Beechworth U3A group have tried the inner town loops, and thoroughly enjoyed the…

Orchard Track Loop : November 7

Ten bushwalkers completed today’s walk of the Orchard Loop Track in the Stanley State Forest. This was a lovely walk, with some good views, and many wildflowers in bloom at the time. I’m not familiar with all their names, but definitely donkey orchids, milk maids, and some other orchids; this spring has been good for…

Cup Day: November 3rd, 2020

There were three Cup Day walks this year (due to the Covid-19 pandemic) all of them based at Wenham’s Camp in the Warby Ranges, and we then had the traditional Cup Day celebrations back at Wenham’s. Walk 1 was from Wenham’s to Salisbury Falls, and return. There were nine people on this adventure, and we…
