This year’s Week Away (postponed from 2020, due to covid-19) ran from April 17 to 21, and was attended by 34 club members.
The group really enjoyed themselves on the Mornington Peninsula, and were based at Iluka Retreat, near Shoreham.
A variety of easy, medium and hard walks were offered daily, under the leadership of our expert walks coordinator, Robert Chard.
Anne Turnbull and Erin Pascoe organised the catering superbly, and the overall organisers were the calm natured Cheryl Hoysted and Marita Samuelsson!!
Despite the majority of participants being Wangaratta dwellers, we also had walkers from Deniliquin, Shepparton and Beechworth.
The “gun” adventurers were the speedsters from Myrtleford and area; apparently Sandie Church often sprints up Mount Buffalo before breakfast!!
On Sunday we explored the Arthur’s Seat area, while Monday was dominated by coastal walks, centred on the gorgeous Bushranger’s Bay.
Supposedly, Tuesday was a rest day, but despite the ominous weather forecast, most of us managed to amble along other parts of the coast.
We investigated the old railway bench up to Red Hill Station on Wednesday, while the last day was allocated to a survey of the whole Point Nepean Park, including the fascinating Quarantine Station.
Overall, another first rate Week Away!!
