Lesley led a small group along this delightful medium walk of about 8 km, in the rugged granite gorge area of the Beechworth Historic Park.
Starting at the Powder Magazine, we visited many features such as the Precipice and Fidde’s Quarry.
From near Ingram’s Rock, we spent time really enjoying the fantastic views over the Woolshed Valley, and marvelled at the changes that this valley has experienced from the early 1850’s when gold was discovered, and many thousands of diggers were camped there.
The many small granite quarries passed, are evidence of the amazingly hard work that the pioneers carried out, cutting out the very hard rock, and then transporting it into nearby Beechworth town for early building construction.
At one stage, a very social echidna was encountered beside the track. She just stared at us, rather than hiding her beak, and we assumed that residing along this very popular ramble has meant that this special animal is now quite blasé about visitors invading her territory!
Christmas Party : Friday, 10th December
The club’s well attended Christmas Party was held at the excellent Bowman’s – Murmungee Memorial Hall.
It was an informal gathering, but Cecily our president took the opportunity to briefly examine what was another very successful year for the club, which now has a membership of over 140!!

Camping at Harrietville caravan park (book your own accommodation). A hard walk of approx 22k along The Razorback to Federation Hut, and Mount Feathertop, then a descent down the Bungalow Spur track back to Harrietville.
An easy walk on the Sunday.

Celebrate New Year’s Day with a medium loop walk of approx 12k on bush tracks in the WONP, passing through many colonies of grass trees, lots of wattles and rocky scenery. The walk starts and finishes at Wenham’s Camp, and takes in Mount Warby.
