Sunday’s walk at Mount Buffalo began at the Reservoir Carpark, which was reached via the new, and improved, roadway, so smooth.
On a gorgeous warm and sunny day, 15 walkers began the walk from the carpark, starting with the Mount McLeod Fire Trail before turning left onto the Mollisons Galleries Track.
After about a kilometre, we took the side track to Og, Gog and Magog, and scrambled over rocks and trees to reach the large boulder from which to enjoy morning tea with a fantastic view.
After the break we scrambled back down the rocks, and returned to the main track where we continued on for about a kilometre to reach the junction, before continuing on to Eagle Point and Mollison’s Galleries.
After more than a kilometre, we reached the junction where decisions were made as to whether one would continue to the Mollison’s Galleries, or pop up to Eagle Point for lunch.
A group of eight opted for lunch at Eagle Point, a rocky outcrop with a series of ladders attached to reach the top for elevated views to 360 degrees. They probably watched the Mollison’s Galleries group trekking by in the forest below them.
The remaining group of seven continued to Mollison’s Galleries. After about 4.5km we reached the Galleries. There is a large boulder shaped like a head at this location, we’ll call him ‘Mollison’.
A well deserved break with lunch, and some exploring was enjoyed at the viewpoint, before returning to the junction for Eagle Point. The track enroute out to Mollison’s Galleries didn’t seem to descend that much, but was significantly more uphill on the way back than expected.
On reaching the junction for Eagle Point, four of the group decided to take the opportunity to see Eagle Point, and were not disappointed. At this time of year, and at the time of the day we arrived at the top, the shadows were noticeably long on the sunny outcrop. After some fun photos we descended back down the ladders, and to the main track to return to the Reservoir Carpark.
A walk of about 9km for those who trekked out to Eagle Point, and back, and about 17km for those who went to Mollison’s Galleries and back.
