The Mullinmur Wetlands form a major part of the Ovens River Floodplain, and are located on the northern side of the Wangaratta urban area.
The vegetation of the wetland consists of River Red Gums and Silver Wattles; wildlife includes Barking Owls, Regent Honeyeaters, Egrets and Possums.
Our six kilometre walk started in Phillipson Street, and from here we made an easy loop walk through bushland, and tracks alongside the Ovens River.
Morning tea was held on the river bank, and our finish point was the Mullinmur Billabong firepit gathering place.
Here we incorporated time for “forest bathing” a Japanese practice of mindfulness in nature. We all appreciated 5-10 minutes of quiet contemplation, and being aware of the sights, sounds and smells of the bushland, and the river.
It was a fine, and warm, day for our adventure – much enjoyed by all twelve of us.
