Greetings from the NT Volunteer Campground Host program!
I’m writing to let you know about the NT Parks and Wildlife volunteer campground host program.
Similar to volunteer campground host programs in other states, the NT volunteer campground host program is a great opportunity for people to experience the wide open spaces of NT Parks, spending time in remote and beautiful parts of Australia while also getting to know the rangers and becoming part of the team who manage these incredible landscapes.
NT volunteer campground hosts must:
· Be self-sufficient regards accommodation – a camper trailer, campervan or caravan with solar capacity and water storage is ideal but we have had volunteers hosting in tents just fine
· Be independent operators. While a couple of our campgrounds are relatively close to ranger stations and communities, our hosts need to be comfortable with being in remote and isolated locations
· Hold current first aid qualifications and a national police check (if you don’t already have these hang tight until you’ve been approved as a host as we can reimburse most of your costs after you have completed your first placement)
· Be prepared to complete short WHS and program training sessions and abide by a volunteer code of conduct
Campground host duties will only take a few hours a day and include tasks such as:
· Greeting guests and helping them find their campsite
· Providing information about the park and the local area
· Doing routine maintenance and making sure the campsite is clean and tidy
· Liaising with park rangers regarding site conditions, facilities and any issues
Your stay in the campground during your hosting period is of course free of charge, but in addition to this, to help you explore our parks and get to know them like a local, we send you an NT Parks Pass at the start of your approved hosting placement. Once you’ve completed your placement you will receive a gift voucher to the NT Parks and Wildlife online booking service. This voucher will be equal in value to one nights free camping for each day that you host and can be used to book campsites in parks and reserves across the NT, and to book places on some of the most spectacular remote walks in Australia.
There are campground host sites located in 7 of our incredible national parks:
• Trephina Gorge Nature Park
• Finke Gorge National Park
• Karlu Karlu/Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve
• Elsey National Park
• Litchfield National Park (3 sites)
• Judbarra/Gregory National Park
• Keep River National Park
